Financing commercial and residential green building is going through critical stages of infancy, growth, and development. A business case for green building will be developed to illustrate what is happening in the market; where to go for investment capital, applications, and information; and what the immediate future looks like (such as the impact of LEED for residential projects and the greening of the National Association of Home Builders). Short case studies from several communities nationwide will be explored. What can be learned from other jurisdictions, from Great Britain’s Norwich and Peterborough Building Society to Syracuse University’s Environmental Finance Center?
Learning objectives:
- Identify sources of green building funding
- List the criteria for preliminarily evaluating requests for funding
- Compare and contrast alternative paths for capitalization of sustainable design projects
